CONFOR APPOINTS POLICY & RESEARCH DIRECTOR (11/10/06)

ConFor has appointed Stuart Goodall as executive director for policy and research.

This appointment demonstrates ConFor's commitment to be an effective voice for the industry.
Stuart has worked for ConFor since its inception in 2004, but on temporary secondment from the Forestry Commission. He has now left the Forestry Commission to join ConFor full-time.
Stuart leads on policy development and representation, identifying key policy issues, leading the preparation of policy positions and coordinating lobbying work.

David Crichton, ConFor's chief executive, welcomed Stuart in his new capacity:

"Stuart has proved to be a valuable member of the ConFor team and I am delighted that he is now fully on board."

Stuart said:

"I am excited by the challenge of taking a more active role in ConFor. The sector needs a strong voice setting out robust, clear messages to politicians and their advisers. As ConFor continues to grow the benefits of that approach will increasingly bear fruit."

One current policy issue relates to the forthcoming Forestry Commission England strategy to produce an additional 2 million tonnes of wood for fuel from England's existing woodlands.

Stuart is working closely with FCE on this and is meeting England's forestry minister, Barry Gardiner, in support of the strategy.

"The strategy is potentially great news for woodland owners in England, opening up new opportunities for revitalising woodland management," said Stuart.
