Electrical Awareness Training – November 2019 to Feb 2020

Scottish Power has been working in partnership with Forestry and Land Scotland to create a refreshed Electrical Awareness Training package. The training utilises the expertise of the Network Operator and will be delivered across Scotland, irrespective of Network Provider territory.

You may have recently attended electrical awareness training, but you are encouraged to attend this event, as it has been designed to be forestry specific.

Electricity on operational sites will always be a key constraint and the harsh reality is that as an industry we continue to incur accidents and fatalities when working in and around electricity.

The new training aims to keep electricity firmly in the minds of all those who work within the forest industry and the training content is as follows:

  • Cultural perceptions around electricity
  • Types of OH and UG lines
  • The distribution network
  • HSE overview, statutory requirements and electricity ref’ doc’s
  • Areas for improvement
  • Industry-specific guidance – FISA 804 and Goalpost management
  • Electricity within RAs
  • Worksite Planning (exercise)
  • Emergency procedures

Intermingled throughout the above will be real-life examples of the consequences of striking electricity.

For this round of training, the focus will be harvesting and the following people are recommended to attend:

  • Harvesting Contract Managers and Supervisors (Trade and FLS)
  • Timber Purchasers
  • Principal Harvesting Contractors and Operators
  • Principal Hauliers
